About COTA for Becca S.

With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure.  The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses.  In Richmond and Muncie, volunteers are raising funds for COTA in honor of transplant patients like local teen, Becca Stoermer.

Becca Stoermer is a 16 year old girl born on April 30, 1997 in Richmond, to Mike and Dena Stoermer.   On the outside other than her oxygen line she appears to be a normal teenage girl, but on the inside she is very sick.    Becca was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) when she was two years old and has made numerous trips to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis to treat various lung infections and CF related illnesses.

Becca is a fighter, and for most of her young life she has enjoyed playing sports but an extremely aggressive bacterial infection has taken her to the sidelines.  The doctors at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH, have recommended a life-saving double-lung transplant, without which the outcome is fatal.

Becca’s dream is to receive new lungs so that she can continue her life, and hopes to join her team-mates back on the basketball court at Richmond High School.  She is very strong willed and keeps fighting this disease with all she has and has committed to fight to the end, but without transplant Becca’s end will come too soon.  We hope you join us in being a member of Becca’s CF Crew, and commit to fighting with Becca to the END, which for all of us is when Becca receives new lungs and returns to the basketball court!

Recently Becca and her supporters have teamed up with COTA to assist Becca and her family with transplant-related expenses. COTA has a strong track record of helping children and their families raise much needed funds to assist with transplant-related expenses. But without your help, none of this could be possible. We hope Becca touches your heart and lives as much as she has ours.

Becca is a very special young lady with an amazing support system of family and friends, which you can join to keep Becca fighting to the end!  We pray you can help inspire Becca in her fight with a contribution to COTA in her honor!  An estimated $50,000 is being raised by Richmond & Muncie volunteers.

Thank you in advance for your contribution to COTA in honor of Becca S.
